| Pedophiles
and pornographers are not the only dangers on the Internet. Newsgroups and
downloads can also pose serious problems. The term newsgroup is deceptive. Newsgroups are
public bulletin boards used to exchange information about every subject imaginable from
collecting sea shell to making explosives. Collectors use them to locate collectables, or
sell them. Pedophiles use them to find other pedophiles, to share child pornography or
perhaps the children themselves. Families can use them to find lost loved ones. Drug
dealers use them to find new clients. Second only to chat rooms, it is the rawest form of
human contact on the Internet. SentryCam documents all forms of interaction,
including News Groups. A word about downloads.
Downloading unsolicited material from the Net is dangerous unless you know the sender,
(personally). Viruses, which may literally destroy a computer's hard drive, can be cloaked
in innocent appearing e-mail or in the personal message boxes which appear on the screen,
most often during chat sessions. The only real protection against downladed viruses is
common sense and a firm set of family rules in regard to the Internet. In addition, a
great deal of pornography, child and adult, is offered up in samples in plain looking
downloads. Some simply say: Click Here. Children are curious and it is impossible to say
how many have been duped into opening a pornographic site or downloading pornography into
the family PC.
Set close enough together, SentryCam screenshots can identify the sender and provide
a time/date stamp documentation to the evidence. |
